Volunteer to help make our Alt Pride Festival happen

We're looking for volunteers for all sorts of things: fundraising, crafting and making, putting together and pulling off Queer Roots events and socials, and representing Queer Roots Collective at local events.

We’re looking for both key roles and on the day festival volunteers.

For on the day festival volunteering please fill out the form here.

Key roles we’re looking for:

Please email Kati at qrcvolunteers@gmail.com if you’re interested in either of these roles.

  • Working with the Marketing, Social Media and/or Volunteering teams

Identify and make contact with different local groups who may be interested in attending and/or volunteering at the festival, helping us to be as broad and inclusive as we can.

Get feedback from these groups (formal or informal) about what would make them feel welcome at the festival.

Where possible, follow up post-festival to see if we succeeded in making them feel welcome.

  • We're looking for people to help us make the festival as accessible as possible, particularly by giving input into accessibility and feedback on the accessibility information.

We're looking for input from anyone who experiences barriers to accessing queer events. Feedback from physcially disabled people would be particularly appreciated as our current team is neurodivergent but not physically disabled.

Volunteering for this could look like giving feedback in text or voice note form, talking things through in a video call, or physically meeting (at the site or elsewhere) to discuss - whatever works best for you. You can email qrcaccessibility@gmail.com or message us on Instagram @queerrootscollective if you'd like to get involved.

On the day festival roles

  • Compere

Get the crowd warmed up for the acts, introduce them, and help keep up a good atmosphere in between acts.

  • Lino

Co-run a linoprint stall/workshop. Guide people in mixing ink to the right consistency and then printing with linoleum blocks onto fabric or paper, and advising people on how to care for new fabric prints so they don’t wash out.

  • Gate/Front of House

Welcome people at the gate and cross their names off a list. You will also be the person people can approach if they aren’t sure what help they need - you can direct them to a befriender if you’re busy.

  • Zines

Co-run a zine (mini magazine)-making workshop. Help people with the practical side of folding and stapling to make a booklet, as well as prompts if they are stuck for ideas.

  • Befriending

Be on the lookout for people who seem lost or distressed, and listen in order to help them find what they need, whether that’s a quiet corner and a bit of a chat with you, or help joining in an activity and meeting new people.

  • Set-up

Help us set up the physical structures and decorate in preparation for the festival. These shifts will take place on Friday 6th and the morning of Saturday 7th rather than during the festival.

  • Tidy up

Help take down and clean up after the festival. This shift may take place on the Monday 9th, in which case we'll all have lunch together.

Volunteered with us before?

Thank you from the very bottom of our boots for volunteering for Queer Roots Collective's Alternative Pride - without you, it would never have happened. To help us make volunteering as fun, rewarding, and interesting as possible, we would love you to fill out this feedback form. Please be honest - feedback is all anonymous!
